Regeneration:

DPF regeneration happens when the exhaust temperature’s high enough and this can be achieved by Motorway or A road driving at a steady speed until the warning lights goes out (usually about 10km) but this can vary depending on how blocked  the DPF filter is.

Active regeneration

Active regeneration happens when the engine management system injects extra fuel into the engine to raise the exhaust temperature and triggers the regeneration process.
